OPRI Research & Development
The Observational & Pragmatic Research Institute Pte Ltd (OPRI) is an independent research institute uniquely placed to deliver advances in research and development in Singapore and globally. OPRI strives to improve the lives of patients through global research and the translation of novel innovations into direct patient impact.
OPRI was incorporated in Singapore on 7th February 2014, underpinned by the investment of its longstanding affiliate research unit within the United Kingdom (Observational and Pragmatic Research International Ltd), which was incorporated over 18 years ago on 26th April 2001. The funded research delivered by OPRI facilitates OPRI’s continued investment into novel research and development programs within Singapore and across the world. The Institute aims to become a flagship R&D facility within Singapore, adding tremendous value to the substantial investment already made in the infrastructure of OPRI’s existing Singapore business.
OPRI R&D programs follow a process of key stages (commencement to end)

1. Program Commencement | The research team identifies a network of leading experts and competent professionals in the field. A request is made to the network to submit ideas as to the issues faced in this field (Uncontrolled & Severe Asthma) that cannot be readily solved by a competent professional and could lead to Novel Risk & Therapeutic Response Prediction. |
2. Research Prioritisation | The initial pool of ideas is then researched, reviewed and prioritised by an independent network of experts in the field based on the potential and/or those that do not have insurmountable limitations. This panel includes R&D leads from the organisation. In this stage experts define and allocate any required key themes to form working groups for conduct of suggested systemic, investigative and experimental (SIE) studies. |
3. Feasibility Assessment | The prioritised SIE studies will then be assessed by the R&D management team and scientists for feasibility and commercial viability of the resulting intellectual property. If deemed viable, the studies are approved as part of the R&D Program. |
4. Systematic: Literature Review & Protocol | Once approved, the individual SIE studies undergo the systematic phase of the R&D process. This is a planned and orderly approach of the steps or activities to be taken in the study. Activities undertaken are documented within a study protocol which is registered on such that another person in the same field can reproduce the results by following the same procedures. |
5. Investigative: Data, Analytics & Reporting | The investigative stage of the studies is undertaken to explore and uncover information to help in understanding the problems and to find out how to close the gap between the desired outcome and the state of scientific or technological knowledge prior to the commencement of the study. |
6. Experimental: Development & Implementation | The experimental stage of the studies undertaken next uses a series of structured steps to test the potential solution (e.g a new technology or devices) and ultimately inform further refinements or new developments. |
7. Dissemination: Launch of new tools | Following completion of selected R&D themes, new products and/or educational tools are launched under a commercial model and protecting the intellectual property. |
